Gregory Alegi
I am Gregory Alegi, writer and historian.
I teach History and Politics of the USA at LUISS University and Strategic Studies at UNINT, both in Rome. I have taught Aviation history at the ITAF Academy for about 20 years. I frequently comment on these topics on TV and radio.
My latest book is Ustica: un’ingiustizia civile, written with Lt Gen Leonardo Tricarico.
I am the managing editor of Aeronautica, the oldest running and mostly widely distributed Italian aerospace monthly, for which I have been writing since 1995. I also sit on the editorial boards of the Italian monthly AIr Press and the UK quarterly The Aviation Historian.
I have published over 50 aviation books and monographs, as well as documentaries, films and TV formats. In 2016 my book La storia dell’Aeronautica Militare: la nascita won the IX “Giulio Douhet” aerospace book prize.
In the historic aviation field, I have curated the Caproni and Volandia museums, a dozen of exhibitions, the restoration of some 30 aircraft and the recovery of others from places as far flung as Afghanistan, Great Britain, Lebanon and Sweden.
I am an ASI Technical Commissioner for vintage aircraft and sit on the Advisory Board of the ICSA Foundation and the Managing Boards of the Associazione Trasvolatori Atlantici and the Fondazione Jonathan Aerei Storici Famosi.
I have worked with major aerospace groups for heritage and communications projects. For several years I taught the baseline course in the Aviation track of the LUISS Business School MBA program. I was also editor in chief of the Italian online aerospace, defense and security magazine Dedalonews.it (2005-2015), and managing editor of Pegaso (2002-2003) and Ali Antiche.
I am a certified Scout Master. I live and work in Rome with my wife, our daughter, a black cat and a 1944 Willys jeep.
Welcome!
I am a journalist, educator and curator with almost 40 years of aerospace activity.
